Biography

Karen Eliza is an Interior Designer who integrates experimentation into her work, drawing upon her experience as a former Contemporary Dancer and Avant-Garde artist.

During her years living in Berlin, Germany, from 2014 to 2018, Karen discovered how design can transform one’s mood, experience, and overall well-being. The city, with its unique spaces and minimalistic yet captivating design aesthetic, draws you in. This inspiration compelled Karen to change her career trajectory and embark on a journey as an interior designer.

In recent years, Karen Eliza has carved a new life path by earning a bachelor’s degree in interior design while juggling the role of part-time design consultant for a commercial health and wellness interior designer. Karen’s design philosophy is a tapestry woven from her rich background in fine art, music, and choreography, which has honed her ability to visualize composition and spatial flow.

Karen also holds a BFA in Contemporary Dance from the North Carolina School of the Arts. After receiving her degree in 2004, she moved to New York City, where she thrived as a freelance contemporary dancer for nearly a decade. Her choreography, a blend of innovation and expression, has been presented on stages in NYC and beyond, captivating audiences in Mexico, Japan, and Vienna. In 2014, she ventured to Berlin, immersing herself in teaching dance and broadening her movement repertoire with European techniques, before returning to the US in 2018.

In her dance career, Karen has delved deeply into improvisation and site specifc dance, disciplines that have enriched her presence, playfulness and body awareness. Her musical collaborations to create original scores for dance, combined with her meditation teacher training, underscore her holistic and experimental approach to art and life.

As an interior designer, Karen values sustainability, embraces biophilia, and integrates trauma-informed design principles. She thoughtfully considers the sensory effect of the environment and crafts fluid yet efficient spatial layouts. Her portfolio spans both residential and commercial realms, with a focus on creating serene environments that echo nature’s tranquility, yet are infused with modern and whimsical elements.
